Why I Started Broadband Wireless Internet Access (BWIA) Metropolitan Wi-Fi
Welcome to Broadband Wireless Internet Access (BWIA) Metropolitan Wi-Fi (BWIA Metro Wi-Fi)!
I'll start this site by, unusually, citing another, and in many ways, better site on this subject - MuniWireless.com. If you had to choose one site to learn from about Metropolitan Wi-Fi systems, technologies, business models, applications, etc., you wouldn't be missing much by following MuniWireless.com closely... as I do.
Yet, because MuniWireless.com focuses so closely, intensively, and so well on Metropolitan Wi-Fi (systems, etc.) I think it suffers at least somewhat because it doesn't offer a very good overall perspective of how Metropolitan Wi-Fi fits into the bigger picture of Broadband Wireless Internet Access. How does Metropolitan Wi-Fi compare against Wireless Telephony (Cellular) Broadband? What about small, entrepreneurial Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) that operate in many of the same small, rural markets where Metropolitan Wi-Fi systems are successfully deployed? How will the deployment of Mobile WiMAX systems affect, or not affect the success of Metropolitan Wi-Fi Systems? Etc.
The logical place for this perspective... my perspective... on all of this is on MuniWireless.com, and for a time, it looked like that might come to pass. But it didn't, and I think I have something to contribute on this fascinating subject, and so I've launched BWIA Metro Wi-Fi.
I look forward to your comments on individual articles.
Thanks,
Steve
